Hello everyone!
I'm happy to announce this website is live in time to coincide with not one, but two publications which went on sale this month! I think that spending time messing around with fonts and scrollbars on Wix is a perfectly good way to celebrate. If you'd like to have a similar excuse to geek out, then you can find links to buy and read both books on this site!
Watching the World Pass By is a fantastic collection of poetry by David Hancock. David is a local of my hometown on the Suffolk Broads. It's an incredibly odd place to live, and difficult to capture in prose or verse. The best descriptions can be found in Dickens' David Copperfield, which speaks about the fog and the common communities here. David Hancock is not quite a Victorian, and his look at the Suffolk Broads is a lot more contemporary! Some of the people and oddities he describes could certainly fit into Mr. Bumble's entourage, but...
The book can be found on Amazon for the bargain price of £2.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SBWS9FQ
The second book I'm oh-so-excited about is my own novel, RATS. If the fact that the title is in block capitals doesn't put you off, then you have to contend with starvation, sickness, desperate survivors and grasping despots. But for all that, it's a love story.
At first glance it looks like a generic coming-of-age... the young woman fighting through adversity in the name of justice... and all that jazz. We've read so many stories like that already, so - as entertaining as they are - I've set all of the cliches aside.
Tiria is not a heroine. Seth is not a hero. They are both desperate, brutal survivors in a world full of danger. Nothing is going to swoop in and save them. There is no prophecy, and no war to force them to pick a side. In a world without redemption every choice you make will force someone else's hand.
It's a form of world-building I absolutely adore, and writing RATS was more fun than I should admit. If anyone asks, I didn't smile while describing the horrible things my characters do to each other.
But I hope their small choices make you like them. If they had our chances, they would probably be decent people. And they would absolutely loathe each other.
RATS can be bought for £10.99 on Amazon in glorious tree-flavoured paperback, or for just £1.99 on Kindle.
